Mini Star (3-4 years)
Sing'theatre Academy

Mini Star (3-4 years)

Weekly musical theatre, acting and dance built toward an end-of-semester showing on the Sing’theatre stage.

A Mini Star is a 3 or 4 year-old with untapped energy ready to be given a stage and a spotlight to express themselves. A Mini Star is ready to explore the beginnings of singing, dancing and acting in a fun and supportive environment. The focus of these classes is to let the students have fun and start to be exposed to musical theatre and develop the confidence to expess themselves as other characters. Our Mini Stars classes are perfect for those children who already make a show out of everything in life, to those who need a little extra help and encouragement along the way. What can Mini Stars lead to? Many of our Mini Stars will progress through the academy initially onto our Rising Stars class when they turn 5. Our students will regularly be invited to perform in our Sing’theatre Community Outreach projects such as Music Fest and Singathon.

Theme: Movie Musicals Magic

What happens when the magic of musical theatre meets the big screen?

This semester, Sing’theatre Academy students will explore the wonderful world of Movie Musicals, working on songs, scenes and characters inspired by some of the most beloved musical films and stage productions adapted for cinema. Inspired by the spirit of classics such as Frozen, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Matilda  and many more, students will explore a selection of songs and scenes chosen to suit each group’s age, interests and abilities.

Along the way, they will build confidence, creativity and performance skills through singing, acting and movement.

Bringing together everything they have learned throughout the semester, students will take to the stage in an end-of-semester showcase celebrating the music, energy and storytelling that have made movie musicals a favourite across generations.

What happens in Semester 1 (Showcase Semester)?
Developing the skills to sing, dance and act is very important and we dedicate time to giving students techniques and confidence in all three skills to be able to put into practice when they perform in a full show.

Weekly lesson plans
Every week students will work on songs and scenes from engaging and popular musicals that get them excited to learn and perform. This unique syllabus designed by our Academy team gets students excited to learn and allows us to hone in on the techniques required for musical theatre.

Each week will be different for example one week we will look at singing harmonies, the next a group dance and perhaps the last looking at vocal projection and acting skills all through the lens of fun songs and scenes from popular musicals

Goals for Semester 1
The aim for this semester is to improve skills in Singing, Dance and Acting so they can be better equipped for semester 2 when they present a full-scale musical .

End-of-semester Class Presentation
At the end of the semester, our Mini Stars will gather selected performance items from their classes this semester to showcase to friends and family at our end of term showcase.

What happens in Semester 2 (Show Semester)?
Our teachers find scripts and stories that allow for our students to be featured equally and tell stories they care and are excited about. Previous shows include: The Wizard Of OZ, Alice In Wonderland, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory and Seussical the Musical.

Weekly lesson plans
Every week, students will be involved in rehearsing scenes and songs for the show with understudy roles and production roles assigned to students not in each scene to ensure that all students are engaged at all points of the rehearsal process.

Weaved into the rehearsal process will be skills and techniques appropriate to the characters and scenes the students are portraying ensuring learning and development is happening alongside the rehearsal process.

Goal for Semester 2
The goal of this semester is to transform everything the students have learnt into a full musical performance, where they don’t just practise the skills — they become the characters, tell the story, and bring the stage to life. This semester focuses on teamwork, commitment, and building stage confidence as students experience the joy and challenge of putting on a complete show — from the first rehearsal to the final bow.
